Lord Deben to head climate change committee

Former environment secretary Lord Deben will head the government’s Committee on Climate Change (CCC), energy secretary Ed Davey confirmed today.

Deben will head the body which was created under the Climate Change Act. The Committee provides independent, expert advice on how the UK can best meet its climate change goals.

He has been described as “the best environment secretary we’ve ever had” by environmental lobby group Friends of the Earth.

“Lord Deben has a major contribution to make to the climate change agenda, and I look forward to working with him as we move into critical period on climate change issues both at home and abroad,” said Davey.

He replaces Lord Turner who was the first chair of the CCC when it was set up in 2009.

  • FOE recommendation and personal conflicts of interest involving significant direct personal commercial interests! More of the same, then and clearly not providing "independent" expert advice!

    Appalling!
