Long leads engineering honours


FORMER ICE president Adrian Long and Department of Food & Rural Affairs chief engineer Reg Purnell were among the engineers featured in this year's New Year Honours list.

Long was honoured for his services to higher education and engineering.

The pair received OBEs along with former Highways Agency area manager David Cropper and Coastal Groups of England and Wales chairman Robin McInnes.

CBEs went to Midas Group chairman Stephen Hindley and National Railway Museum chief Andrew Scott.

Other engineers honoured included ICE north east member Michael Taylor who picked up an MBE for services to the scouting movement.
