Long Association

Members and staff, of the Association of Consulting Engineers will have noted with particular regret the passing of Sir Ralph Freeman (NCE 3 September). He was not only the eminent engineer described in your article but also a prominent member of the Association and its chairman in 1975-76.

He maintained an active interest in Assocation affairs and, until in recent years decreased mobility prevented it, regularly attended the Christmas gatherings of its past chairmen. He was a charming and respected gentleman who will be sorely missed.

Nicholas Bennett, chief executive, ACE, Alliance House, 12 Caxton Street, London SW1H 0QL.
