London's Baltic Exchange demolition

Demolition of London's Baltic Exchange is to go ahead to make way for the Arup and Foster-designed Swiss Re 'Gherkin' building. Attempts by the Baltic Exchange to save the Grade II* listed building were rejected by the Department for the Environment Transport & the Regions, which was advised by English Heritage that the building could not be properly preserved after suffering extensive damage in an IRA bomb blast.
