London's £3bn CrossRail project

London's £3bn CrossRail project is gathering momentum again after the long-delayed scheme was endorsed this week by the Strategic Railway Authority. The full story of the 165km railway appears in the latest issue (vol. 147 no. 2) of the ICE Transport Journal. The seven papers in this dedicated issue cover the background to and planning of the project, design of new surface and underground works, geotechnical issues, tunnel ventilation, and noise and vibration control. Summaries of all papers can be read free of charge at www. transportice. com. For further information contact Simon Fullalove (020) 7665 2448.
