London Overground extension opens

London Overground has opened new a line between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction station, completing the London Overground orbital network around the capital.

The new stations along the extension are Queens Road Peckham, Peckham Rye, Denmark Hill, Clapham High Street and Wandsworth Road.

The work is the final stage of a £1.5bn investment in the London Overground network.

Trains will run up to every 15 minutes from Highbury & Islington to Clapham Junction and Crystal Palace, and from Dalston Junction to New Cross and West Croydon. Trains will run between Dalston Junction and Surrey Quays every three to five minutes.

As the service opened on 9 December, the South London line service between Victoria and London Bridge via Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye stopped due to upgrades on the Thameslink line. The Southwark Rail Users’ Group plans to campaign for the statement to be reinstated once the upgrades are complete.
