Legal team at your ServICE

Institution News

A HELPLINE offering 24 hour support to members and legal advice on issues such as coping with redundancy looks set to be launched following the June Council meeting. This approved the establishment of a Professional Practices Committee to investigate how such a scheme could be run.

The favoured proposal would see the ICE's equal opportunities forum ICEfloe developed into the Support Network for Members - ServICE.

In addition to equal opportunities advice, ServICE would help members with a broad range of problems, including redundancy, early retirement, harassment and discrimination at work.

ServICE would also provide business packs to help those setting up in private practice, and provide media packs and quality assurance guidelines for those already in business. It would also offer advice on other professional concerns such as career breaks.

It was felt that the ICE lacks the expertise internally to offer legal and counselling advice so this will be sourced externally. Preliminary costings of running ServICE indicate a likely bill for a legal advice line of ú40,000 a year.
