Leeds Arena construction phase ends

Leeds City Council has this week handed over the £60M Leeds Arena site to operators SMG, completing the project’s construction phase.

Consultant Arup worked as planning agent and technical adviser in 2009 and supported contractor Bam Construction with construction from 2010 until present.

“This project presented many technical challenges due to restrictions caused by the tight site, which is also located in the residential area,” said Arup’s project director Jim Bell. “But, we’ve managed to deliver a world class venue that will offer a superior music experience for visitors, whilst satisfying strict requirements on limiting noise breakout.”

SMG will now equip the arena with staff, amenities and facilities ahead of its opening in July 2013.
