This 40m span steel bridge, rolled into position across the River Lea in Hackney, London, on Monday, forms a vital link in the National Cycle Network. Designed by Whitby Bird & Partners, and modelled on a willow leaf, the 60t structure had to be lifted on to a temporary support then rolled across the river to avoid overhead electricity pylons. Fabrication was by Fairport Steelwork, installation by Gabriel Contractors.
