The last six sections on the Køge Nord station bridge in Denmark have been installed, completing the 225m long walkway.
The new Køge Nord station is part of the new 10.4bn DKK (£1.25bn) Copenhagen-Ringsted high speed line which is currently under construction. When finished it will be Denmark’s first high speed rail line.
The new light steel bridge will link the city with the station over Køge Bugt motorway and parallel rail line. It has been designed by architects Cobe and Dissing and Weitling and bridge engineer Cowi.
The first 37m long and 160t section of six bridge elements was lifted into place over the S-track railway line in November last year. On average each section is 10m wide, 40m long and 3m high.
The remaining five sections were lifted into place over August.
“The three lifts and the weekend’s traffic change on Køge Bay Motorway went well after the plan,” said Banedanmark project manager Bjørn Lykke Jensen. “It’s a milestone when we have the entire footbridge up, but many things are left before we’re completely in line with the station.”
The contractor will now mount climate screens in the interspaces between the six bridge sections, install stairs from the bridge to platforms, install glass facades and elevators, and then do the internal fit out.
The new station is expected to open at the same time as the new Copenhagen-Ringsted route in mid 2019 and is predicted to have around 100,000 daily passengers.
