City of London planners have told developers behind the proposed Tulip Tower that plans must include provisions to create a “construction coordination working group” with other major projects planned for the capital.
The requirement is part of a 152-page report published ahead of a meeting of the City of London Corporation’s planning and transportation committee next week. It will decide whether to approve the Tulip Tower plans.
Developers will have to coordinate with other those in charge of skyscraper projects at 1 Undershaft and 100 Leadenhall to determine if the projects can share construction assets, says the report.
“Due to the specific nature of the site, there are a number of conditions and S106 obligations which will be necessary [..] to make the application acceptable in planning terms,” the report states.
“[The developer shall] establish a construction coordination working group with City of London and the developers for 1 Undershaft and 100 Leadenhall should any parts of the respective construction programmes overlap.”
One Undershaft is a new 300m skyscraper planned the financial district of the City of London. Plans for the building feature distinctive external cross bracing giving the project the nickname The Trellis. Plans for the project were appproved in 2016, but no start date for construction has been agreed.
Meanwhile 100 Leadenhall, nicknamed The Diamond, is a 263m skyscraper for the City that received planning permission in July 2018.
Other obligations laid out in the report include provisions for carbon offsetting, pedestrian improvements and additional cycle storage spaces.
Despite the project being “finely balanced” the authors of the report have recommended the project be given the go-ahead.
The City’s planning and transportation committee will meet to determine the proposal at 10.30am on 2 April.
