The Gallery | First look at Sydney's new metro

Transport for New South Wales has revealed station designs for Sydney’s revived metro system.

Sydney Metro Northwest is the first stage of Sydney Metro and is expected to open to customers in the first half of 2019. The 36km route includes eight new metro stations and five upgraded stations.

Sydney’s citizens will find their new metro stations maximise natural light and ventilation to ensure low energy consumption.

“The station design is defined by order, simplicity and resilience. Most importantly, this translates to the customer experience being easy, accessible, pleasant and connected,” said chief designer Ross de la Motte of Hassell design practice.

The second stage of Sydney Metro is Sydney Metro City and Southwest, a 30km extension of metro rail from the end of Sydney Metro Northwest at Chatswood under Sydney Harbour. The route is due to open in 2024.
