Skanska wins £59M Thameslink viaduct job

Skanska has won the contract to build the controversial new Thameslink viaduct over Borough Market in south London.

Network Rail awarded the contract to Skanska to build a 400m viaduct above the famous food market at Borough.

Work also includes demolition of existing buildings to make way for the new rail structure, as well as the temporary relocation of Borough Market to an adjacent area as well as the removal, refurbishment and reconstruction of the existing cast iron market structure.

The formal award of this contract marks a significant milestone for Skanska and its client who have been working together, under a phase one contract, for many months to develop the scheme.

Main construction works start immediately and are scheduled for completion in August 2012.

  • Another dull and unimaginative metal and glass structure which will look out of place in this area next to the cathedral.
