Pride Park

Just before Christmas, the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) released the latest aerial images of the Games venues, giving a hint of what spectators will be greeted with this summer.

The shots show the Olympic Park Big Build now over 90% complete, with the Olympic Delivery Authority on track to hand the site over to LOCOG early this year. The venues completed in 2011 include (clockwise from bottom left) the Velodrome (1), Basketball Arena (2), Aquatics Centre (3), Olympic Stadium (4) and Handball Arena (5). Also nearing completion is the Arcelor Mittal Orbit (6). Construction of the International Broadcast Centre (7 )is complete and the Main Press Centre is structurally complete. Completed apartments in the Olympic and Paralympic Village has passed the symbolic 2,012 mark (8). The images also give a first glimpse of the results of a two-year planting programme that will create the UK’s largest new urban park for more than a century (9). This work was completed in November. Overall, the construction programme remains on schedule and within the £9.3bn budget.
