Past ICE president, Quentin Leiper, has been awarded a CBE for his services in promoting sustainability across the UK engineering and construction industries.
The award, which was presented by the Prince of Wales, recognises the contribution Leiper has made to the sustainability agenda during his ICE presidency from 2006-07, in his role as Carillon group chief engineer and also through his involvement with a number of sustainability forums, working groups and committees.
At Carillon, Leiper led on a sustainability strategy which was shared, promoted and well respected across the industry, with many other companies replicating the same strategy and actions.
Leiper was also the first editor and chair of the ICE Proceedings Engineering Sustainability journal and is a frequent presenter and judge at various awards, conferences and universities. Twenty-three of his 50 plus journal, conference papers and articles were on various aspects of environment and sustainability.
Commenting on his CBE award Leiper said: “It was a fabulous day and a great honour to be presented with the CBE by Prince Charles, who is a great supporter and advocate for the sustainability agenda.”
