M55 flood prevention work begins

M55 3x2

Repair work has started on the M55 drainage system near Blackpool.

Kier, the contractor on the £125,000 project, will undertake work to reduce potential flooding from nearby fields.

Lane 1 on the eastbound carriageway will remain closed until the work is completed at the end of June.

Speed limits between junctions 3 and 1 have been reduced to 50mph during the works.

A full overnight carriageway closure is expected when the project ends to remove traffic management cones and barriers.

“These wear and tear repairs will ensure the motorway drainage will be able to cope better with water running off adjacent fields and reduce the potential for carriageway flooding,” said Highways England project manager Peter Gee.
