Around half a million construction employees are set for pay rises over the next two years as part of the CIJC Working Rule Agreement.
Effective from 25 June basic pay rates will increase by 3.2% with a further 2.9% increase agreed for June 2019.
Signatory bodies include the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA), National Federation of Builders (NFB), Painting & Decorating Association (PDA), Home Builders Federation (HBF), Scottish Building Federation (SBF), National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), National Access & Scaffolding Confederation (NASC), National Association of Shopfitters (NAS) and Build UK (Contractor Members).
Negotiated by unions Unite and GMB, Industry Sick Pay (ISP) will also increase by 6.1% and the duration of potential benefit extended from 10 to 13 weeks.
The nightly lodging allowance will increase by 7.8% to £40.00 per night and later in the year the death in service benefit will be doubled to £80,000. Terms of service for apprentices will also see an increase of 7% to £5.50 per hour.
Gerry Lean, Employer’s Secretary said “These negotiations have been conducted in a spirt of good will and co-operation demonstrating the excellent relationship between Employers and Unions.
“This deal gives Operatives an above inflation pay rise with the certainty of another increase next year and significant improvements in fringe benefits. It will allow Employers to plan ahead over the next two years with certainty in their employment costs.”
