Fatalities follow building collapse in Taiwan

A 17-storey building has collapsed in the Taiwanese city of Tainan following an earthquake.

Reuters reported this morning that 38 people had died in the magnitude 6.4 quake that struck the city early on Saturday morning local time.

A series of online images showed the extent of damage to the building in the Yongkang District.

Reports on Saturday in Taiwan Today – linked to from the government website – said six had died in the building collapse.
