A worker at engineering consultancy Cowi is set to grace the stage of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Aiming to join an illustrious list of winners including Abba, Bucks Fizz and Cliff Richard, Cowi device lifecycle management specialist Jurij Veklenko is to represent Lithuania in tonight’s semi-final.
If successful, Veklenko will take part in the main show in Tel Aviv, Israel, on Saturday night.
However, win or lose, Veklenko has vowed not to quit his job at Cowi.
“This is something I’ve been working on for nine years and I finally succeeded! For the past few months, besides doing my job, I’ve been working hard to get ready for the contest,” Veklenko said.
“I leave home in the morning and return around midnight. I do interviews, photoshoots, performances, rehearsals, meetings, etc.”
He added: “I’ve been working with Cowi for five years in the Group IT department in Vilnius. My managers are very supportive and understand that I need some time off work. This is an opportunity that comes once in a lifetime.
“I really appreciate their understanding. This is why I like working here. Many people ask me this, so for the record: I am not planning on quitting my job!”
Veklenko will be performing his ‘Run with the Lions’ track during tonight’s show (see video below).
However, bookies are predicting that he will finish outside the top 10 acts that will qualify for Saturday’s final.
