Construction output down

Construction output fell in the first three months of this year, according to an official document.

A preliminary estimate of Gross Domestic Product for January to March 2016 published by the Office for National Statistics showed construction work down 0.9% from the previous quarter.

This represented a 1.7% fall from the same quarter last year.

Official figures released last month showed infrastructure output took its biggest monthly hit in over two years in January 2016.

But economists at the Construction Products Association this month said the infrastructure sector would grow by more than 50% in the rest of this decade.
