Bechtel wins contract for NR Crossrail work

Bechtel last week scooped a second major Crossrail contract when Network Rail selected the firm as delivery partner for its £2.3bn chunk of the £15.9bn project.

Network Rail’s decision means Bechtel has a clean sweep of Crossrail work, after Transport for London selected it as the project delivery partner on the central tunnelled section (NCE2 April).

Bechtel formally signed the contract for the coveted £400M project deliver partner role covering the design and construction management of the central section of Crossrail this week (see cover feature page 14).

Network Rail’s £2.3bn of Crossrail work includes:

  • Electrifying the western route from London to Maidenhead
  • Managing around 2M.m3 of tunnel spoil
  • Rebuilding and improving stations of the above ground route including track at Paddington, Abbey Wood, Ilford, Romford and Ealing Broadway
  • Major junction and train reliability improvements

Network Rail has also put Bechtel in charge of the £400M Reading station upgrade.
