Balfour Beatty has sold a 30% stake in the M1-A1 link road to an infrastructure investment company for £14.5M.
HICL Infrastructure has bought the stake in the 30km Lofthouse to Bramham DBFO Road Project. The original construction work on the route included 18km of new roads, widening 12km of existing roads, two interchanges, five junctions and 169 structures, including two tunnels, 14 overbridges, 19 underbridges and one viaduct.
The project is a 30-year shadow toll PFI concession for the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of a motorway linking the M1, M621 and M62 motorways to the south of Leeds and the A1(M) south of Wetherby.
The concession is due to end in March 2026 and reached financial close in March 1996. Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering is providing operation and maintenance services for the motorway.
