A Mott MacDonald and Sweco JV has won the biggest of three smart motorway consultancy packages awarded by Highways England.
The £3.9M contract is for the M27 from junctions 4 to 11 and the M3 from junctions 9 to 14.
A Jacobs and Atkins joint venture has won a £3M package of schemes on the M60, between junctions 24 and 27 as well as between junctions 1 and 4.
Finally Aecom has won £2.8M of consultancy contracts for schemes on the M62 between junctions 10 and 12 as well as on the M6 between junctions 21a and 26.
“The contracts being awarded are for the design of smart motorways in the North West and South East of England,” said a Highways England spokesman.
“They are the next step towards delivering schemes that tackle congestion and improve journeys on some of the busiest sections of road, while at the same time maintaining or improving safety.”
