Mitchell crash: The story of Borehole 4, Kariba North

Last week's appointment of a receiver to Mitchell Construction Kinnear Moodie Group Holdings was caused primarily by continuing and massive losses on the Kariba power station in Zambia.

Unexpected rock conditions had brought parts of the site to a virtual standstill months ago; the Kariba North Bank Co and Sir Alexander Gibb and Partners were left, still unable to agree with the contractor a satisfactory system of payment, as the company went down.

India quake rebuild faces height restriction

Quake devastated Indian city of Bhuj will be rebuilt with a three storey height limit, engineers in the Indian state of Gujarat told NCE this week.
