White Paper brings private water closer

Thames Water Authority was expected to be given the preliminary go ahead for full privatisation in a government White Paper due to be published yesterday (Wednesday). Given that the proposals could become law during the 1986/1987 legislative session, TWA could be on the market by austumn next year. A price tag of £1bn has been estimated. The White Paper was due to set out the timetable for all 10 regional water authorities in what is the biggest and most controversial sale of public assets to date.
