18 bidders win £434M of Highways England work

Night roadworks

Highways England has awarded a new-style framework totalling £434M to 18 companies for work across Cumbria and North Lancashire, and the North East of England.

The framework, which will run for four years, covers ten different specialisms and has been split into 15 lots. It will start on April 1. These are the latest in the series of new Asset Delivery contracts, where Highways England takes routine maintenance and capital renewal and improvement in house.

The new contractors will work alongside Amey, which in December won two new five-year design services contracts worth a total of £38M for Cumbria and North Lancashire and the North East areas, which includes technical design.

The contractors will also work alongside Kier Highways and a CH2M Costain joint venture (JV), which were awarded two maintenance response contracts totalling £262M over 15 years in December.

“Collaboration with our supply chain is key to our new way of working and we are looking forward to establishing a successful, long-term relationship with the appointed contractors,” said Highways England executive director for commercial and procurement David Poole.
