No criminal charges over Abbeystead blast

Charges for criminal negligence over the Abbeystead valve house explosion have been considered by the Health & Safety Executive but will not be pressed following searching analysis of inquiry evidence. This was revealed when the official inquiry report was published by HSE last Thursday. Design shortcomings and ill advised operational practice were cited as having led to the methane blast which killed 16 people in May 1984.


Missiles target Iraqi bridges' weak spots
