£115M Luton airport rail link tender out

luton light rail

A tender for £115M worth of civils work for a new rail link at London Luton Airport (LLA) has been released.

The design build package is for a 2.1km mass rapid passenger transit system from Luton Airport Parkway station to Luton Airport terminal.

The works will be on and off the airside section of the airport and include constructing viaducts, embankments, cut and cover works, station platforms and buildings and other possible work including car parks. Some of the works will be within the air-side sections of the airport.

Planning permission for the rail line has also been submitted, which will take just five minutes to transfer passengers.

Work is expected to begin in late 2017, with the system ready for operation by spring 2021. The deadline is March 29. The value of the work is put between £85M and £115M.
