Lancashire road collapses

A major road in the North West has been closed for at least a week after its surface collapsed.

Lancashire County Council engineers attended the incident on the A682 just north of Junction 13 of the M65 yesterday.

The road is closed between Whittycroft Avenue and Barnoldswick Road, with diversions in place.

Principle engineer Ray Bennett said: “We have to find out what has caused the collapse and what type of repairs are needed.

“The current closure is in place for a week, but we may have to extend this depending on how complex the repair work is.”
