Labour's first Budget

Labour's first Budget in two decades announced last month had a strong environmental theme. Chancellor Gordon Brown's speech gave the first indications of the government's integrated transport policy, with an extra £500M investment in public transport in the next two years, while company car owners will be penalised through higher car taxes and fuel duties. Landfill tax is also set to increase from £7 to £10, with inert waste made exempt.
