Labour: one year on London Underground

Labour is inching towards a deal which will secure desperately- needed funding for the capital's Tube network. Paymaster Robinson has already eased accounting procedures, Chancellor Brown found extra cash to tide the organisation over until the private finance deals can be done and Deputy Prime Minister Prescott is negotiating with potential funders and infrastructure concessionaires. Problems remain, not least safety, but a start has been made.
