German tunnelling firm Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau has been awarded an £59M contract to build a 5.4km dual-purpose tunnel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Part of the Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (SMART) project, the 11.83m diameter drainage tunnel will relieve flooding in the city centre. When not flooded, the tunnel will be used for road traffic. Construction is due to start in May 2004 and take two years.
