Direct rock mining without the use of explosives is being promoted by Krupp Bautechnik using its Marathon series hydraulic hammers. Advantages of eliminating blasting from the primary face at a quarry are claimed to be: a reduction of wastage since less material is reduced to fines; the ability to select material from appropriate strata; continuous production at a steady rate; and elimination of the noise and ground shocks inevitable with blasting.

New for Bauma is the HB60 hydraulic hammer drill for anchors and pile holes. The 750kg rotary percussive drill generates a torque of 28kNm and runs at up to 190rpm.

Krupp GFT is launching special RZD and RZU interlock elements for its heavyweight composite piling system which allows I-section soldier piles to be clutched to Larssen sheet piles. There is a new range of Mller vibratory pile driving and extraction equipment. Krupp GFT is now offering a design and supply service on Titan bored steel tube injected anchor piles manufactured by Friedr Ischebeck. A non- vibrating steel trench sheet press by the same manufacurer is also being marketed by the company.
