Kick start for delayed asset register

Engineering software company AEA Technology deputy managing director Bob Mole joined Metronet last week to deliver its much delayed asset register by the end of this year.

His appointment comes after Metronet missed December 2004 and March 2005 deadlines for producing the register. Mole will provide technical assistance to speed up efforts to gather information about the condition of the Tube.

'Asset management should be the brain of the company. We will now have a clearer asset management strategy: we already had a plan, but it didn't have sufficient focus or leadership, ' said Metronet chief executive Andrew Lezala.

Lezala has also recruited Neal Lawson, vice-president of train manufacturer Bombardier's services division, to improve the renewal and maintenance operations.

Former Virgin Trains West Coast operations director Jackie Townsend was recently appointed and will be responsible for improving asset performance.
