Key Devon road nears completion

South West Highways is close to completing a critical £8.5M link road in Devon.

A ceremony will be held next week ahead of the official opening of the 760m-long road in Crediton near Exeter.

Construction of the highway, known as Wellparks Hill, began in July 2013 and benefited from almost £3M pinch point funding from the government.

It will provide a much-needed link from Wellparks roundabout to the Lords Meadow Industrial Estate, and includes a shared cycle and footway.

The road is designed to tackle congestion and improve air quality along nearby roads.

Devon County Councillor Andrew Leadbetter said: “This is an important investment in Crediton’s future economic growth and supports the County Council’s drive to develop Devon’s infrastructure.

“Wellparks Hill not only provides heavy vehicles with a more direct connection to the industrial estate, it unlocks access to employment and residential land, which hopefully will create more jobs in the area.

“This scheme is a key part of the effort to improve air quality and tackle congestion in the eastern part of the town, so residents in the eastern part of the town should benefit from reduced traffic levels.”
