Kaprun funicular disaster

All 16 defendants charged with criminal negligence after 155 passengers died in the Kaprun funicular disaster (NCE 16 November 2000) have been acquitted by an Austrian court.

The judge ruled there was insufficient evidence to connect the individuals charged - including government safety inspectors and employees of equipment manufacturers and the train operators - with the events leading to the fatal fire.
