The risk is that this dispute may be settled in a boxing ring!
I trust they know that many Victorian structures are built 3-4 m below the level we now require. which may have contributed to the breach of the sea wall.

Objectors do not seem to realise how quiet the HS2 will be with welded link rails and electric power it will be much quieter that the west coats main line, which has 4 tracks. This is also much quieter that a dual carriageway road which runs adjacent to the west coast main line in Buckinghamshire.
HS2 also takes much less land that a road scheme.
I still think the long term solution should be to look to the Midlands for the additional runways where there is capacity for aircraft movements. HS2 connection brings fast access to the center of London so there should be no loos of business form such a move. Heathrow and Gatwick are very busy and so should benifit from the safer enviroment.
With HS2 it would be posible to develop Birminham airport rather than try to cram more aircraft into Heathrow airspace. Fast linkage to London would be no worse that many other europeon hubs.
