Graduate profile: Laura Tweddle
Laura studed for her MEng in civil engineering at Newcastle University, graduating in 2005. "Early on in my last year, Jacobs came in to University and talked to us," Laura recalled. "I had a short interview there and then-and was then called back for another more formal interview, A couple of days later it phoned me and offered me this this job. It was good to know that I had a job lined up for me to start in the September. It allowed me to prepare for my final exams with confidence, and to plan for the summer".

Following finals, Laura set off on a three month trip around America before starting work in the Jacobs in Newcastle office as a highways and transportation engineer. "I am really happy here, and I know that I made the right employment decision," said Laura. "I've been working on projects since day one and there is so much to learn. When you are at University they don't teach you about finance or project management, but the Jacobs Graduate Development Programme has helped me to develop these skills. I am on the ICE North East Graduate Student Committee with Jacobs support. Jacobs is happy to let me spend some time going into schools to talk to young people about engineering, and I also help to teach a module at Newcastle University as well."

Laura's next goal is to become chartered: "I have a brilliant Supervising Civil Engineer helping me with my development reports, and Jacobs is ensuring that I get all the experience I need to complete my training. Jacobs has been really supportive-it sends me on lots of courses as part of my ongoing development. Looking back, I know I made the right decision to join Jacobs. If you are a graduate who wants to get ahead, the joining Jacobs is the way to go."
