J Murphy power division awarded Tube Sub-Surface lines contract

J Murphy & Sons Power Division has been awarded a multi-million project by London Underground Limited (LU) to upgrade the power infrastructure of the Sub-Surface Railway (SSR) lines, comprising the Metropolitan, Circle, District and Hammersmith and City Lines.

The upgrade of the SSR lines includes works and services to track infrastructure, together with the introduction of new rolling stock and signalling systems and associated system power upgrades.

Murphy’s upgrade of LU’s 132kV power network for the SSR will comprise works and services to its Bulk Supply Points (BSP), substations and interconnecting High Voltage (HV) cabling. This includes the detailed design, system integration, procurement, supply, construction, testing, and commissioning, and handover of two 132kV 120MVA HV cable circuits from St John’s Wood 132kV Substation to the newly constructed Griffith House LU BSP at Edgware Road requiring routing under public road and streets.
