I was disappointed to read the article Your career Northern Ireland (NCE 22 March) which concentrated on consultants. It made no mention of the numerous equally professional contractors who have and continue to eke a living in one of the most volatile and competitive markets in northern Europe.

The article failed to mention any of the excellent locally based consultancy firms who continued to trade throughout the troubles preferring to give credit to fair weather firms who now have bases in Belfast hoping to cash in on the peace dividend.

T T Madill (M), Gillan Civil Engineering, Maghera, Northern Ireland.
