Internet is civils' top information resource

ICE news

A POLL to discover where civil engineers obtain engineering knowledge has revealed that the Internet was the most frequently used resource.

The poll was carried out among NCE readers using email, and reinforced research carried out by the ICE.

'The survey is hugely important in developing the ICE's knowledge management strategy, ' said ICE knowledge development manager John Bennett. 'It demonstrates the need to provide as much engineering knowledge through the web as possible.' he said.

This reinforces the ICE's investment in broadcasting some lectures on the internet.

The ICE was quoted as the primary source of engineering knowledge followed by internal company libraries.

'It's no real surprise. But it was interesting to see that the ICE was so highly regarded, ' said ICE head librarian Mike Chrimes. 'We need to make sure we're part of that business resource to ensure the ICE stays relevant, ' he said. Electronic journals have been available for over three years.
