International aspect for YGEC 2000

NEWS

THE MILLENNIUM Young Geotechnical Engineers' Conference, YGEC 2000 will be held at the University of Southampton.

The event, organised by BGS, will be held between 8 and 13 September next year and, as ever, aims to provide a forum for young geotechnical engineers from around the world to present and discuss their work.

The format will be similar to previous conferences held regionally in Europe, Asia, South America and Australia. However, to mark the millennium, YGEC 2000 will be an international conference and two delegates will be invited from each of the ISSMGE member societies.

Organisers also hope to secure three or four international keynote speakers to form the focus of the main sessions of the conference. The aim is to run the conference at no cost to delegates other than travelling expenses and sponsorship is currently being sought. Contact Professor William Powrie, email: wp@soton.ac.uk
