Infrastructure new work drop

The volume of new infrastructure work in the UK fell by 6% in August, official figures have revealed.

Office for National Statistics data showed that £1.53bn of such work took place in August.

This was down from £1.63bn in the previous month – but up from £1.16bn in August 2014.

Construction work as a whole fell 4% to £10.6bn in August 2015. All figures are seasonally adjusted.

The Construction Products Association this summer said the infrastructure sector could double in size within five years.
