In the pipeline


The airport's £1bn growth plan to 2015 will be achieved largely by extending and rationalising its three terminals. Major opportunities include:

Terminal 1: Transfer lounge and baggage handling facilities. £90M Terminal 2: 50% expansion on two levels. £200M Terminal 3: 25% expansion.

£50M Ground transport interchange:

£60M conversion of rail station to multimodal use. £27M shell and core contract already let to Skanska. £15M fitout to be tendered separately Manchester Metrolink: £90M, 21km extension of tram system from city to airport.

Starts 2003. £10M being funded by airport but contracts let through Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive Maintenance and refurbishment:

£100M spend to 2015. Over 70 contracts to be let, mostly design and build bids from select list. Few frameworks Retail outlets: £50M.

Long term plan to convert the ground transport interchange to a through station with an 8km, £200M rail link to the West Coast Main Line.
