IN THE PALM OF HER HAND: Gemma Jefferson, a pupil at Norton College in Malton, North Yorkshire, was this week presented with her prize for winning the first ever competition in NCEinsite, NCE's magazine for schools. Her prize, a state of the art Palm handheld computer, was presented by NCE editor Antony Oliver (left) during a visit to the government-backed comprehensive technology college. With help from graduate engineer Simon Newby from Arup's Sheffield office, Gemma and her technology classmates were given a short civil engineering careers workshop and introduced to Edifice, the Institution of Civil Engineers' new interactive careers CD-rom. The visit will spearhead a permanent link between the school's Young Engineers Club, the ICE's Yorkshire Local Association and Arup's Sheffield office. Closing date for a chance to win a digital camera in the NCEinsite summer competition, sponsored by Owen Williams, is 31 August. email nceinsite@construct. emap. com for a copy.
