In brief: Water & Maritime Engineering journal

A risk-based approach for evaluating the economic benefits of cliff protection schemes has been published in the latest issue (vol 142 no 3) of the ICE/IAHR Water & Maritime Engineering journal.

The authors, Jim Hall of Bristol University, Mark Lee of Newcastle University and Ian Meadowcroft of the Environment Agency, said their approach, which is applicable to both protected and unprotected coastal sites, is preferable to current practice, which can underestimate economic risk.
