in brief Thames Water

Thames Water has developed a new safety device for tunnel construction. Invented by Thames Water senior safety adviser Martin May, the Tunnel Stopper inflates in seconds to form an air bag 'plug' that prevents smoke filling the entire tunnel in the event of a fire. A sealable escape hatch allows workers and rescuers to reach safety.
