IN BRIEF: Contractor Kier


Contractor Kier is struggling to push construction margins above 1%, according to half year results published on Tuesday. Construction operating profits increased from £4M in the first half of 2000 to £5.7M last year on turnover of £626.1M, up from £540.6M in the six months to 31 December 2001. Group pre-tax profits increased from £7.4M in 2000 to £9.4M in 2001 on turnover up from £591.3M to £693.9M.
