Imperial units

Apart from its basic civil engineering courses, London University's prestigious Imperial College runs short intensive courses from its branded 'Imperial College London' unit, presented by some of the biggest names in engineering.

For example Professor John Burland, famous for work on the Leaning Tower of Pisa, starts the four-day Foundations: recent developments in analysis and design course, on 8 April. He will be joined by Professor Dick Chandler.

Courses like these attract participants from around the world.

'Many people fly in specially, ' says programme administrator Peter Chard. In addition to learning cutting edge material in the course itself, they also have the chance to make contacts.

The Centre for Professional Development will also be offering Numerical Analysis in Geotechnical Engineering from 10-13 June.
