ICE COUNCIL this week voted to increase subscriptions in 2008 by just 2.5%, compared to the 9% increase in 2007. The smaller increase was due to a successful performance by Thomas Telford Limited (TTL), which achieved double its profit target of £1.4M by making £2.8M in 2007.
he 2008 subscriptions increase is lower than the 4.5% rise projected in the ICE's five year business plan.
The original increase in fees was agreed by members in 2005 after a vote backed ICE plans to provide better support to members through five new regional support teams (NCE 2 June 2005) ICE president Quentin Leiper said: 'I'm really pleased that the 2008 increase has been kept low. It is a credit to the teams at ICE group that we can produce such good results and can deliver better services for our members.' All new graduate members will also benefit from free membership until the next year begins, so student members joining the ICE as graduates this summer will not have to pay until January. This also applies to individuals joining the ICE as graduate members for the first time.
Leiper added: 'Giving free graduate membership for a short period will help them see the benefi s of ICE membership when they are in employment.
We're also keen to work with employers to ensure we nurture future Telfords and Brunels.' ICE Council also voted to offer a 36% reduction in subscription rate to its Technician members over the next five years. The technician rate for 2008 will be £100, compared to £157 in 2007.
In 2008, the concessionary rate for those on incomes below £11,000 per annum and for retired members will remain the same at £50 per year.
Voluntary donations will remain at £3 for the Benevolent fund, Research & Development fund and the QUEST awards.
